DESERT PLANT MEDICINE TRIP
Anza Borrego Desert
The desert is a magical place. Every year the past 7 years I’ve been going to Anza Borrego for time with the plants in the desert. I find that the desert naturally provides deep reflection, contemplation, stillness and inspiration.

About The Event
The desert is a magical place. Every year the past 7 years I’ve been going to Anza Borrego for time with the plants in the desert. I find that the desert naturally provides deep reflection, contemplation, stillness and inspiration. When I’m in my tent at night I feel the breeze gently move the tent cloth, I can see the stars through the mesh opening, and I’ll hear an owl hooting at night, and often I’ll hear the coyotes howling on the other side of the canyon, dancing around their catch.
I wake up before dawn when the desert is still in the dark, and sit and watch the sun rise in hues of yellow, orange, red, purple, green, waking the subtle life of this ecosystem . The desert may appear as if nothing much is happening, but when I sink in to being one with the pace here, slowing down with the heat of the day, I experience the teeming life of the desert. Birds, lizards, insects, and plants habituate in a very hot and dry climate.

The plants of the desert speak to me the loudest; they seem to have such wisdom as they cleverly adapt to high winds, lack of rain, heat, finding their way up towards the sky, expressing themselves under the beating sun.
Because they find life in such a habitat, the desert plants are potent medicinals; both in how they concentrate volatile oils and other constituents, as well as in their energetic properties. They are adaptive, thriving in a landscape that doesn’t hand anything to them.
I invite you to come experience the plants of the desert with me, under the stars, under the sun. We will explore the energetic and medicinal properties in depth of such plants as
Ocotillo
Chaparral
Ambrosia
Desert lavender
The ancient Elephant Tree
Plus, we will see lots of other plants, for example Encelia, Senna, Chupurrosa, Agave, a variety of Cacti, Desert Willow, Ephedra, Mesquite, jojoba and Datura.
We will make flower essences of the desert, and learn about medicine making.
We will meditate with the desert and the plant spirits to learn what knowledge they have for us.
We’ll go over ethical wildcrafting in the desert, although we won’t be doing any harvesting of plants in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
